This afternoon my mom and I were invited to go into town to visit the fresh market, where most people go to purchase food... Unless they buy it at the Tesco Lotus.
Here are some photos of delicious options:
Pork
Mushrooms
I don't actually like most mushrooms I've had in the U.S., but there are a few types of Thai mushrooms I think are delicious!
Dessert
Americans would approve- it's made from corn.
Frogs and Snakes
The metal bucket has frogs yet to be bagged and placed, like lower right. I have video of the frogs still jumping...For a split second I felt like staging a Free Willy moment, but it passed. They are used mostly for soup.
Clams
It took me a while to figure out what was bagged...
Fish
Some look more appetizing than others...
Bugs
Yes, they are moving around. They are about the size of my thumb. I asked how to get them into the pan without them getting away... Let me know if you want to know the answer.
Dry Goods
Eggs
Notice the pink eggs. They are from special Thai pink chickens. Just kidding...dyed.
The first picture is of durian- my least favorite smelling fruit. It actually gives me a headache to be around.
Rambutan-- 35 baht for 1 kg or 100 baht for 3 kg... About $3 for 6.6 pounds of pure deliciousness!
Flowers
Creamy DrinkI'm still a little unclear what it was I drank... Colored/flavored sugar and condensed milk with ice, I think.
