Teacher Appreciation Day

Teacher Appreciation Day this year at my home school was kind of a bummer; it sort of felt like people forgot about the day.  Usually, we hope for bagels and a thank you note.

This is dramatically different from the day of respect shown for teachers around Thailand today.  Students made big flower displays and, after a prayer for learning (where the curriculum books were positioned near the alter to be respected) they were presented to the teachers.

Students shows significant reverence through the creation and presentation of these amazing flower displays, which are made largely out of banana leaves.

I love the tradition!  Every other school day can be about the students, but I like the idea of reserving one day a year to demonstrate appreciation for teachers.
