Yesterday, we were in the middle of teaching a lesson when we heard a loud motor. I thought it was a chainsaw.
It wasn't.
All of a sudden, heavy, dark gas filled the room and students started running. I should add- the classroom has no door or windows, it's just open.
Kids were coughing and running... I was thinking "holy crap!" Because I have no internal protocol for a gas attack while teaching.
At first I tried running towards the back windows- that was the wrong way. Then out the door- that was the wrong way. They away from the building- that was the wrong way.
Basically, there was no right way because the dark cloud of gas was everywhere.
I was dry heaving and trying to breath at the same time.
Then, it went away. Air! Sweet air!
It turns out that, without warning, some authority was sent to spray for mosquitoes because somebody in the village got malaria.
If this happened at my school in Winnetka-- somebody would either be fired or sued. Here? We went back and finished the lesson.
